Learning the Alphabet and Letter Sounds

As I was reviewing letters and sounds with my kindergarteners last week, I wondered about some of the other techniques and songs kinder teachers use and found successful in their classrooms.  We have “Lettercise”d and used “Who Let the Letters Out,” but my favorite is the Leapfrog Letter Factory.  We sing the song at the end of the movie and pair it with body motions.  The kids love it and quickly pick up and retain the information.  I purchased the Letter Factory DVD in a box set that came with other Leapfrog DVDs and a set of Letter Factory Flash Cards, which I absolutely LOVE!  I was really excited several months ago when Leapfrog posted a printable Letter Factory Coloring Book.  I wish I could buy additional sets of the Letter Factory Flash Cards but it seems the only way to get a set is to purchase the DVD bundled set again, which would be ridiculous.  So, it was an awesome find when I saw that Jessica had posted a hand-drawn color and black and white version of the cards on her Running with Scissors blog.  I’ve found the Letter Factory to be a great, successful way to teach my students their alphabet and letter sounds.  What are some techniques and/or songs that work for you?

The Start of Something...

Welcome to my Kindergarten Kidz blog!  I am very excited to finally start this blog.  I think this will be a great way for me to quickly, easily, and regularly share my kindergarten classroom with you.  I hope you find my blog to be a useful and informative source of information and ideas.  Thank you!
